New Years at the Watershed

When travelling I have always been one for trying to not do what the “generic” tourist would do. And this was much the same for me in Sydney for New Years Eve this year. Even though I accept that seeing the fireworks from around Circular Quay would have been an amazing experience, I really was not in the mood to get up at 8am in order to spend all day sitting on the grass, getting sunburnt saving my spot and having to deal with large crowds. I have hard enough time just dealing with the Sydney publics inability to move orderly on a normal day yet alone in a crowd of 30,000.

So I thought I would do something a little different, and treat my girlfriend and myself to something a little nicer. Through the recommendation of a friend I decided to get VIP tickets at The Watershed on Darling Harbour and I don’t regret the decision for a minute. Firstly I didn’t have to get up at 8am to “get my spot”, I was able to relax all day and rolled up around 7:30pm just in time for our free champagne and two hours of food being served to us. And the food was pretty good, king prawns, chicken sticks and mini burgers. And I got my moneys worth put it that way!

The service was also excellent and the drinks were reasonably priced considering the location and time of year. A round of wine for myself and a Malibu and Coke for the missus would only put me back $15 which is pretty good for Sydney on an average night yet alone New Years! Then on top of that we got a front row seats to the fireworks, which were amazing (and I could see the harbor bridge fireworks as well and I’m telling you now… ours were longer! So instead of fighting it out with a crowd I was able to relax and enjoy a romantic New Years evening with my girlfriend. Absolutely loved it and I would go back to The Watershed anytime!
